In EU 7th Framework Programme, ongoing EUPHRESCO-ERANET Project named "Diagnosis, detection and epidemiologic plant protection tools for Erwinia amylovora (PHYTFIRE)" project's results meeting was carried out by the coordination of Plant Protection Research Department on 13-15 May 2014 ın Ürgüp-Nevşehir.
The opening speech was committed by Dr. Rezzonico Fabio (Project coordinator) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Birol AKBAŞ, head of Plant Health Research Department. 20 scientist represents 10 different organizations from 8 countries- Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Estonia and Turkey were participated. Among represents, there were European researchers worked in E. amylovora.
Aim of this project is, increase knowledge about monitoring methods in different inoculum resources like flower and vector insects that is effective in detection and distribution of fire blight disease E. amylovora, causes serious losses in orchards.
In the result meeting, Project outputs were evaluated; distribution of these outputs to science World and new cooperation possibilities were discussed. In addition, detection methods of this quarantine disease were studied and selective, accurate and confidential detection method was revealed. This method will be offered to European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO).
Especially young researchers found opportunity to come together with European experts and this situation benefits for carrying out joint projects in the future, being in cooperation and sharing knowledge. Also arranging an international meeting in our country successfully makes our organizations and researches more confident in organizing meetings like this.
